Tell us about a journey — whether a physical trip you took, or an emotional one.
I woke at 10.30 with pains in my tummy..I thought Oh wow this is it. My husband and I got up and he put wood on the fire and I made us a cup of tea.
I waited an hour before I rang my midwife, she said ring me when your contractions are 5 minutes apart.
I called my support person and she came over.
My body was on a roller coaster, the waves of pain got closer and closer together and I found I was only comfortable on my knees, I felt a gush of water leave my body about midnight and then things really heated up. Really having to focus my energy and ride these painful waves. My midwife arrived and she got on her hands and knees beside me and stroked my hair and told me I was doing so well. I remember her socks, they were stripey and looked very pretty.
I wanted to stand up..sheesh what a struggle that was, I wanted to throw up, I yelled omg get me a bucket I’m going to be sick, my support person got me a bucket, by the time she brought it back for me the urge to vomit had left me and I felt intense pressure, and I wanted to push!
I pushed HARD for 30 minutes..it was horrible I did not like it one bit (I have heard some woman say they felt relief at pushing) I detested it, I felt it was the only time I really really had no control and I just had to bare it, I didn’t think I would…but I did, and my daughter emerged into the world at 4:15 am I was blown away. I reached down between my legs and scooped her up in my arms, she was a bloody watery mess. She was PERFECT, and my heart has beaten differently since that moment..more fuller in my chest, much deeper in my soul.
